Liverpool initiate talks with Real Madrid for Federico Valverde transfer and submit an official offer

Liverpool has reportedly reached out to Real Madrid in hopes of securing a high-profile transfer for Federico Valverde. The Spanish club’s president, Florentino Perez, has already responded to the inquiry, setting the stage for potential negotiations.

Valverde, who impressed with 12 goals in 56 appearances for Los Blancos last season, faces competition for playing time as Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is rumored to be joining Real Madrid. Additionally, midfield stalwarts Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are approaching the twilight of their careers at ages 33 and 37, respectively. Rising talents such as Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and a resurgent Dani Ceballos further intensify the midfield battle.

While Valverde could contribute to a dominant Madrid team in the future, reports from Spain suggest that Liverpool has expressed interest in acquiring the Uruguayan international. According to Spanish publication El Nacional, the Premier League side has already tabled a €60 million [£51.5m] offer for the talented midfielder.

El Nacional’s report indicates that Liverpool is willing to increase its bid to €80 million, including €20 million in variable payments. However, Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, has made it clear that any negotiation below a fixed €100 million threshold will not be considered. Perez has firmly asserted that talks for Valverde’s transfer will only proceed if the offer exceeds the €100 million mark.

Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, has been monitoring Valverde’s progress for some time, according to El Nacional. Klopp believes that his team requires “a shake-up and a leap in quality” after a lackluster campaign across all competitions last season.

Valverde himself has touched on his future aspirations while attending the Copa Libertadores clash between River Plate and Fluminense. Expressing his allegiance to his Uruguayan club, Penarol, Valverde stated, “I’m a River fan, but I’m a fan of Penarol. It’s my club in Uruguay. Before River, Penarol comes first. It will always be my first choice, although right now I’m enjoying being at Madrid, then we’ll see.”

In March of this year, Valverde displayed his commitment to Real Madrid by stating, “If they want me out of Real Madrid, they will have to kill me.” These words further emphasize the challenges Liverpool may face in their pursuit of the talented midfielder.
