Deadline Drama: Liverpool’s Last-Minute Efforts for a Shock Signing at Anfield
As the transfer window’s September 1st deadline fast approaches, Liverpool is gearing up for potential last-minute surprises, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool has already splashed more than £100 million on reinforcements for the squad, but they’re not done yet.
One name making headlines is Crystal Palace’s defensive midfielder, Cheick Doucoure. Liverpool has reportedly set their sights on the Mali international, who comes with a hefty £70 million price tag. This interest in Doucoure initially sparked when there were uncertainties surrounding the futures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. However, with their departures to Saudi Arabia confirmed, Liverpool is intensifying their efforts.
Liverpool had also pursued Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, but both players opted for Chelsea instead, leaving Klopp to explore other options.
In a potential twist, Liverpool is eyeing Atletico Madrid’s creative midfielder, Joao Felix, as a replacement for Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian departs Merseyside. However, Felix’s preference is reportedly Barcelona, despite additional interest from Saudi Arabia.
Liverpool has already made some significant summer signings, including Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo. However, the club’s willingness to pay £111 million for Caicedo has alerted other clubs to Liverpool’s budget for the right targets, possibly driving up the prices for their late targets.
Regarding Mohamed Salah, Liverpool has firmly stated that he is not for sale, despite renewed interest from Al-Ittihad. Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, dismissed the possibility of the player moving to the Saudi Pro League. Klopp has also emphasized that Liverpool has not received any bids from Al-Ittihad and won’t entertain any potential proposals.
However, there’s a potential twist in the tale as the Saudi Arabian transfer window closes after the Premier League’s deadline, potentially allowing bids to be lodged after Friday. Al-Ittihad has already made a significant move by securing Fabinho’s acquisition earlier in the summer, and they are reportedly willing to offer over £100 million for Salah, making him one of the highest-paid players globally with a salary package close to £1.5 million per week.
