Diogo Jota’s Wife Accuses Match Officials of ‘Rigging’ Liverpool’s Loss to Tottenham as ‘Clowns’
Liverpool’s recent 2-1 defeat to Tottenham sparked significant controversy surrounding the officiating, with Diogo Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, expressing her discontent.
Following the match, Liverpool issued a statement pledging to explore various options, asserting that the integrity of the sport was compromised due to the incorrect disallowance of Luis Diaz’s goal. This decision stemmed from a significant human error, as the VAR misinterpreted the on-field call, according to the PGMOL, the governing body for match officials.
Rute Cardoso, in addition to the Diaz incident, was incensed by the quick succession of red cards in the game. She particularly targeted referee Simon Hooper and the PGMOL for sending her husband, Jota, off with two yellow cards in just two minutes.
Cardoso expressed her frustration by sharing a video of Jota’s first foul on Destiny Udogie, along with a clown emoji, captioning it with, “This was given as a yellow card.” Later, she posted the PGMOL’s statement admitting their mistake, crossing out “rigged game.”
In the match, Jota was introduced as a halftime substitute by Jurgen Klopp and received his first yellow card in the 68th minute for a challenge on Udogie. Cardoso pointed out that replays seemed to show Udogie tripping himself while under pressure from the Portuguese forward.
Minutes later, Jota lost possession and, in an attempt to recover, tripped Udogie again, leading to his second yellow card and subsequent expulsion from the game. This series of events prompted Simon Hooper to issue the second yellow card.
