Carragher upset as Liverpool’s Romeo Lavia bid rebuffed again
Liverpool’s ongoing attempt to secure the services of Romeo Lavia has drawn sharp criticism from former player Jamie Carragher. In a scathing assessment of his old club’s tactics, Carragher labeled the pursuit of Lavia as “embarrassing,” highlighting the departure of key midfielders and the need for reinforcements.
Jurgen Klopp has taken steps to fortify Liverpool’s midfield for the upcoming Premier League season, acquiring Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. However, with notable exits including Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita, the club finds itself in a scramble to bolster its midfield ranks before the transfer window closes.
Klopp’s focus has turned toward Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, prompting a bid of £45 million. Yet, this initial offer was swiftly rebuffed by the Championship club, which holds out for £50 million to part ways with the promising young midfielder.
Carragher took to social media to express his frustration, posting on Twitter, “This is embarrassing. Liverpool for years now have got deals done quickly with no fuss. If you don’t think he’s worth 50M, move on. If you really want him, pay it. Also not sure why LFC aren’t in for Caicedo, yes it’s a lot of money but Liverpool got big money for JH/FAB.”
Lavia, who joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer, was relegated to the bench in their recent Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday. The 19-year-old midfielder featured in 29 Premier League games last season but has become the focal point of Liverpool’s transfer pursuit.
Liverpool’s interest isn’t confined to Lavia alone, with the club reportedly monitoring Kieran Dewsbury-Hall of Leicester City. Dewsbury-Hall’s recent brace against Coventry has intensified speculation about a potential move to Merseyside.
As the transfer deadline looms, Liverpool’s strategic decisions and negotiation tactics have come under scrutiny from both pundits and fans alike. The outcome of their pursuit of Lavia and other potential signings remains to be seen.
