Confirmed: Liverpool set to secure lucrative transfer deal as Fabrizio Romano reveals ‘premium’ fee

The summer transfer market continues to be a whirlwind for Liverpool, as they make significant changes to their squad under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp. With recent signings like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, the Reds have showcased their intent by investing approximately £95m. Alongside these arrivals, a number of senior players, including James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, and Naby Keita, bid farewell to Anfield at the end of their contracts.

Adding to the departure list, talented youngster Elijah Gift has now left Liverpool to return to his homeland, Spain, joining Athletic Bilbao. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed this move, revealing that Liverpool stands to gain a substantial transfer fee for the player.

Elijah Gift had a promising debut season with Liverpool’s U18 team, making 20 appearances in the 2022/23 campaign. During his time on the pitch, he demonstrated his abilities by scoring four goals and contributing three assists under the guidance of coach Marc Bridge-Wilkinson.

Romano shared the news on Twitter, stating, “Deal sealed, completed. Athletic Club sign Liverpool 2006-born forward Elijah Gift on a permanent deal. Medical successfully completed, been told he signed a deal until June 2028.”

In an intriguing twist, it is reported by the Liverpool Echo that Athletic Bilbao will pay a fee of around £1m for Gift’s services. The La Liga club, known for its strict regional selection policy, will pay a premium due to Gift’s Basque origins. Hailing from the town of Corella, Gift fulfills the unique criteria set by Bilbao, further increasing his value in the transfer.

Expressing his gratitude to Liverpool and its supporters, Gift took to Instagram to bid farewell. He wrote, “Dear Reds, sadly, after six years at this amazing club, today marks the end of my journey with Liverpool FC. I am truly grateful for every second I have spent at this special club. At this point, I would like to express my appreciation for my teammates, the coaches, staff, and everyone for believing in me from day one and pushing me to the best of my ability. I am forever grateful. #YNWA.”

Liverpool’s transfer activity continues to capture attention, with Elijah Gift’s move to Athletic Bilbao representing another significant development. As the Reds reshape their squad, fans eagerly await further news and potential signings in the ongoing summer transfer window.
