Ibrahima Konate Foils Youngster’s Goal Attempt, Leaving Kylian Mbappe in Awe During France Duty

In a recent training session with the French national team, Ibrahima Konate showcased his ruthless nature by preventing a young player from scoring a goal. Konate, who had an impressive season with Liverpool, securing a regular spot in the central defense alongside Virgil van Dijk, was subsequently included in France’s World Cup squad. He played a vital role in helping the team reach the final, where they faced Argentina but fell short in a penalty shootout.

Following his World Cup exploits, Konate received another call-up from manager Didier Deschamps for France’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece. The 24-year-old defender started in the 3-0 victory over Gibraltar and is expected to feature prominently in the upcoming match against Greece at the Stade de France.

Before the Gibraltar match, the senior French squad took time out of their demanding schedule to train with young players, presumably at the national football center in Clairefontaine. Videos posted on the French national team’s Instagram account captured the country’s superstar players engaging in dribbling and shooting drills with the youngsters.

One particular clip showcased Kylian Mbappe encouraging a young player, urging him to take a shot at an unguarded goal. As the youngster lined up his shot, it appeared he would score. However, to everyone’s surprise, Konate swiftly slid into the frame, blocking the ball and leaving Mbappe astounded. The French defender then gleefully ran away, leaving Mbappe in disbelief.

Liverpool fans found humor in the video, expressing their amusement on social media platforms. One supporter on Twitter exclaimed, “He’s a menace, I LOVE him.” Another fan added, “He’s got no chill.” A third user wrote, “Savage, that is,” accompanied by a crying-laughing emoji. And a fourth fan praised Konate, stating, “Proper defender, doesn’t let anyone score on him, not even a kid.”

Looking ahead, Konate is poised to play a pivotal role for Liverpool in the upcoming season as they aim to regain their position in the top four and potentially challenge for the Premier League title. Earlier this month, Konate emphasized the need for Liverpool to sign several new players during the summer transfer window to compete for major honors. He mentioned the departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Roberto Firmino, emphasizing the necessity of adequately replacing them to maintain the team’s competitiveness at the highest level.
