Jurgen Klopp Provides Critical Alisson Injury Update Revealing More Serious Issue
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has issued an injury update regarding goalkeeper Alisson ahead of their imminent Europa League clash.
The Reds are set to battle LASK at Anfield, aiming to secure a pivotal point for their passage into the knockout phase after suffering a 3-2 defeat against Toulouse earlier this month in France.
Klopp’s squad faces this crucial fixture without their primary shot-stopper, Alisson, who sustained a hamstring injury during the 1-1 draw against Manchester City over the weekend, sidelining him from action.
The Brazilian incurred the injury in the dying moments of the Etihad Stadium showdown. Adding to Liverpool’s woes, Diogo Jota also departed early in the same game, displaying signs of a muscle-related injury.
Klopp has shed light on the situation of both players, delivering a mix of news for the Reds faithful. Responding to inquiries about their availability for the LASK match, Klopp informed the Liverpool Echo, “Both are out (Alisson and Jota). Ali’s situation seems less severe, so we’ll have to monitor it closely. He’s unlikely for tomorrow or Sunday, and probably not the following week, but should be on the mend.”
He continued, “Diogo’s recovery will take a bit longer. The extent is unclear at the moment, but it appears more serious. We need to assess.”
Liverpool is grappling with several other injury concerns, with key figures like Thiago Alcantara and Andy Robertson also on the treatment table. Klopp lamented the absence of seasoned players during this hectic schedule.
“During this packed schedule, having all the boys available is crucial. Unfortunately, we’re already missing a considerable number. Thiago and Robbo [Andy Robertson] are sidelined, along with Diogo and Ali. It’s a significant setback,” Klopp added.
Looking ahead, Liverpool is set to confront Fulham in the Premier League before an away fixture against Sheffield United. Subsequently, a trip to Crystal Palace precedes the final Europa League group stage encounter against Union Saint-Gilloise on December 14.
With a highly anticipated showdown against Manchester United at Anfield on December 17, Klopp is fervently hoping for Alisson’s swift return to bolster their chances against their arch-rivals.
