Jurgen Klopp’s Latest Update on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Injury
Jurgen Klopp offered insights into Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury and voiced concerns over VAR’s use in Liverpool’s recent clash against Bournemouth. The match at Anfield saw Liverpool trailing early due to Antoine Semenyo’s goal, but they eventually secured a 3-1 win through goals from Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Diogo Jota.
In the 76th minute, Alexander-Arnold had to be substituted, replaced by Joe Gomez, following an apparent injury. Klopp addressed the situation after the match, stating, “He got a kick and it’s pretty painful but as far as he felt it, it didn’t twist or anything, it was a kick. That’s why we changed it. Hopefully he is okay.”
However, the game also witnessed controversy as Liverpool’s summer signing, Alexis Mac Allister, received a straight red card for his challenge on Ryan Christie. Klopp expressed his reservations about the decision, saying, “I am not sure it is clear and obvious with the way we use VAR [for the red card]. There is contact. I don’t want to give advice to the refs but if he gives a yellow I don’t think anyone says it is a red card. I can’t believe that. Yes there is contact, this is clear.”
He continued, “But this happens all the time in the game. There must be a different intention behind when it is a red card. Let’s see what we can do. We will try to talk to people.” Klopp emphasized his concerns about the harshness of the decision, stating, “We have to speak about it. What you can see in the pictures is yes there is contact but that is it. It was straight, there was no real power in the foot. There was contact but there is contact in a game all the time.”
Bournemouth’s manager, Andoni Iraola, also weighed in on the red card incident, saying, “I don’t know. In real life, it did not look like a red card.” Mac Allister could potentially miss Liverpool’s upcoming matches against Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Wolverhampton Wanderers, depending on the outcome of further discussions and reviews.
