Liverpool Engages in Negotiations for Anfield Acquisition of £53m Duo
Liverpool’s quest for strengthening their squad continues as they explore the possibility of signing Khéphren Thuram and Manu Koné, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs. While the recent addition of Alexis Mac Allister has bolstered their midfield, Jürgen Klopp remains eager to secure another midfielder for Anfield.
Reports from FootballTransfers indicate that Thuram has already reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with Liverpool. The highly regarded Nice star currently holds a market value of approximately £27m, as evaluated by Transfermarkt.
Similarly, Koné, valued at around £26m by the same source, appears to be on his way to Anfield this summer. Anfield Index’s report reveals that the Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder has also agreed to personal terms with Liverpool.
If the moves materialize, both players would join forces with Mac Allister, recently acquired from Brighton in a £35m deal, as confirmed by BBC Sport.
Jacobs reaffirms the legitimacy of Liverpool’s interest in Thuram and Koné, asserting that the Reds have indeed inquired about the duo. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist states, “They definitely want to bring in another midfielder. The Thuram and Koné talks are legit. Liverpool have certainly enquired about those two players, so both are ones to watch.”
Considering Mac Allister’s impressive performances for Argentina in their World Cup triumph and his stellar season at Brighton, Liverpool’s midfield has received a significant boost. The 24-year-old showcased his scoring prowess with 10 goals in the Premier League, emerging as the Seagulls’ top scorer. Additionally, he contributed 1.3 key passes per game, placing him among the top performers in that aspect among Brighton players during the 2022/23 campaign.
However, Liverpool’s midfield still requires further reinforcement. With the departures of Naby Keïta, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, coupled with Jordan Henderson and Thiago entering their 30s, signing Thuram or Koné becomes crucial for the Reds.
While Liverpool and Klopp can currently revel in the signing of Mac Allister at a bargain price, with the transfer window yet to open, there is undoubtedly more excitement to come for Liverpool supporters.
