Liverpool in Talks for Bayer Leverkusen Star as Agent Reveals Minimum Price

Liverpool has initiated discussions for a potential January transfer of Bayer Leverkusen standout, Piero Hincapie, as confirmed by the player’s agent.

Hincapie, an Ecuador international who represented his nation in the 2022 World Cup, has proven to be an integral part of Leverkusen’s lineup since Xabi Alonso took charge. This versatile defender, adept at both center-back and left-back positions, stands out for his exceptional speed and distribution skills.

While Hincapie featured in nearly every Bundesliga match last season, his disciplinary record is a concern. He received 13 yellow cards and three red cards in the league, an aspect of his game that Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, may seek to address if the transfer to Anfield materializes.

According to Manuel Sierra, Hincapie’s agent, Liverpool is actively pursuing the player’s signature in the upcoming transfer window.

In an interview with Joaquin Saavedra from Futbol San Cassette (via Bolavip), Sierra revealed, “Liverpool were interested in Hincapie during the summer, but they opted to invest in the midfield at that time. For January, they are in discussions, as are other clubs. The asking price will be no less than £50 million.”

During the summer transfer window, Liverpool bolstered its midfield with four new signings, aiming to address the departures in that area. However, concerns have arisen regarding the team’s depth at center-back. Nonetheless, young defender Jarell Quansah has made significant strides, earning a first-team role after a loan spell at League One’s Bristol Rovers last season.

Manuel Sierra is a familiar name to Liverpool fans, as he also represents Moises Caicedo, another Ecuadorian player whom Liverpool nearly acquired, with a British record bid accepted by Brighton. However, Caicedo ultimately chose to join Chelsea, citing his ‘dream’ to move to Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool hopes for a different outcome in their negotiations with Hincapie and aims to secure a defender who has thrived under the guidance of Liverpool icon Xabi Alonso. Alonso has described Hincapie as a ‘modern’ and ‘aggressive’ player, highlighting his potential to strengthen Liverpool’s defensive ranks.
