Liverpool intensifies efforts to secure RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai

Amidst the departures of key midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Naby Keita, Liverpool is determined to bolster its squad with the acquisition of RB Leipzig’s attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, according to recent reports.

Szoboszlai, 22, made a significant impact in the Bundesliga last season, showcasing his talent by notching 10 goals and providing 13 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions. This impressive performance has piqued Liverpool’s interest, fueling rumors of a potential move to Anfield.

The Hungarian international currently has a €70 million (£60 million) release clause embedded in his RB Leipzig contract. However, complications may arise once this release clause expires, as reports from Germany suggest it will cease to be active after June 30.

Despite the potential hurdles, Liverpool is increasingly confident about reaching an agreement with the Bundesliga side. The Athletic’s David Ornstein provided an encouraging update, stating, “In the past 24 hours, Liverpool appear to have been given confidence that it is possible.”

While Newcastle had also shown interest in Szoboszlai, they have now withdrawn from the race, leaving Liverpool in a favorable position to secure the talented midfielder’s signature.

This recent development marks a significant turnaround from Ornstein’s previous update, where he expressed that Liverpool acknowledged the challenging nature of striking a deal with RB Leipzig.

Szoboszlai himself has expressed admiration for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, describing him as an inspirational figure who can bring out the best in his players. In an interview with Hungarian YouTube channel Csisztu in 2020, the young midfielder said, “I really like Klopp. The kind of human being he is… For me, he is the best manager [in the world].”

Moreover, in an interview with Index, Szoboszlai expressed his desire to work with Klopp, as well as other esteemed managers such as Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Jose Mourinho, the head coach of Roma. He believes that with the guidance of these top-tier managers, he can reach the highest level in his career.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Dominik Szoboszlai underscores their commitment to strengthening their midfield ranks, and if successful, the Hungarian talent could provide a significant boost to the team’s attacking prowess in the upcoming season.
