Liverpool offload 11 players ahead of £60 million Dominik Szoboszlai signing, clearing £500,000 in wages

Liverpool Football Club has taken steps to reduce their wage bill by releasing 11 players on June 30, freeing up approximately £500,000 in wages. The club, who will be competing in the Europa League next season after finishing fifth in the Premier League, has wasted no time in making changes ahead of the new campaign.

Liverpool recently made significant midfield additions, spending a total of £95 million to secure the services of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. Both players have signed five-year contracts as part of a major squad reshuffle at Anfield, which has also seen a number of departures in the midfield area.

Players such as Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have left the club after their contracts expired. Additionally, Roberto Firmino has decided to end his Liverpool career and appears poised to join Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.

In addition to these first-team departures, a group of young players, including Jack Bearne, Liam Hughes, Charlie Hayes-Green, Oscar Kelly, Fidel O’Rourke, Oludare Olufunwa, and Iwan Roberts, have also been released by the club.

According to information from Spotrac reported by the Daily Star, these player departures have resulted in Liverpool saving around £500,000 in wages. Firmino was said to be earning £180,000 per week, while Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain were collecting £120,000 per week. Milner, who has joined Brighton, reportedly agreed to reduced terms of £60,000 per week. The cumulative effect of these savings amounts to nearly half a million pounds for Liverpool.

It has been revealed that Dominik Szoboszlai, one of the club’s recent signings, will be among the top earners at Liverpool, earning over £150,000 per week when factoring in bonuses. However, it is worth noting that Mohamed Salah remains the highest-paid player at the club, reportedly earning around £350,000 per week in basic pay.

Szoboszlai, who will wear the iconic No. 8 shirt previously donned by Steven Gerrard, becomes the fourth Hungarian player to represent Liverpool. Despite initial talk of Liverpool operating on a limited budget this summer, the club is now turning its attention to Kephren Thuram, a midfielder from Nice and France, who could command a fee of around £60 million.
