Liverpool suffers another backroom blow as esteemed figure departs Jurgen Klopp’s staff
Liverpool has bid farewell to a valued member of Jurgen Klopp’s backroom staff, as highly regarded analyst Dominic Price has departed the club to take on the role of technical director at Maccabi Tel Aviv. The 32-year-old will be working alongside former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane, who was recently appointed as the head coach of the Israeli Premier League team.
According to reports from The Athletic, Price was held in high regard within Klopp’s backroom staff, with a specific focus on post-match analysis. While Liverpool didn’t want to lose him, the club acknowledged that the Maccabi Tel Aviv role represented a significant promotion for Price.
Price joins a list of recent departures from Liverpool, including sporting director Julian Ward, director of research Ian Graham, and academy coach Tim Jenkins.
So, who is Dominic Price? Price began his journey with Liverpool in 2011, joining as a coach from one of the club’s international football academies. After a brief spell with Blackpool as their first-team performance analyst in 2022, he returned to Liverpool as the first-team post-match analyst just two years later.
Ben Mansford, the CEO of Maccabi Tel Aviv, expressed his confidence in Price’s abilities, stating that he will oversee all technical aspects of the first-team operations, including recruitment, performance analysis, sports science data, and its integration with the medical department. Mansford also emphasized Price’s role in implementing best practices across Maccabi’s youth academy to enhance analysis and data integration for the club’s continuous progress.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has been active in the transfer market this summer, as Klopp aims to navigate the most significant squad shake-up of his tenure. Following the signing of Alexis Mac Allister last month, the club announced their second summer signing, Dominik Szoboszlai, over the weekend. The 22-year-old midfielder joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig for £60 million, committing to a five-year deal until 2028.
As Liverpool bids farewell to Dominic Price and continues to reshape its squad, the club faces the challenge of maintaining its winning momentum under Klopp’s guidance.
