Liverpool’s Pursuit of Mac Allister Signals £35m Star on Their Radar

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is actively seeking to reinforce his midfield options ahead of the upcoming season, and one player who could pique their interest is Khephren Thuram, according to a report by Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express. The Reds, who will be without Champions League football for the first time since 2016/17, are looking to make significant additions to their squad.

Thuram, a midfielder currently playing for Nice, has reportedly attracted the attention of Liverpool. L’Equipe has revealed that the Premier League side has taken steps towards securing his signature, as they aim to bolster their midfield ranks with two new signings during the summer transfer window. It is believed that Liverpool is prepared to make an offer of around £35m, an amount that Nice is reportedly open to accepting.

Not only Thuram but also Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone has been discussed as a potential midfield addition at Anfield, as per CBS reporter Ben Jacobs. However, the pursuit of Thuram seems to be less advanced than initially reported.

Liverpool has already made moves to revamp their midfield, having secured the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion for £35m. This proactive approach signals their intent to strengthen the heart of the team following the departures of Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the end of the previous season.

Ryan Taylor believes that Liverpool’s priority lies in bolstering their midfield options before addressing other areas of the squad. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he stated, “Thuram seems like a player to be of concrete interest again. We’re seeing Liverpool’s movements change ever so slightly.”

Thuram, a French U21 international, has been a consistent performer for Nice this season, featuring in 48 matches and contributing two goals and eight assists. Notably, his defensive capabilities stand out, averaging 1.5 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game in Ligue 1. These impressive numbers, coupled with his exceptional performances in terms of progressive carries (3.25) and successful take-ons (1.63), place him among the top midfielders across Europe’s major leagues, as per FBref data.

If Liverpool secures the services of Thuram, it could prove to be a significant long-term addition to their midfield, as Klopp aims to build a formidable team capable of challenging for major honors once again.
