Steven Gerrard’s Unsuccessful Attempts to Recruit Two Players for Liverpool End in Rejections via Text

In the pursuit of strengthening Liverpool’s squad, Steven Gerrard, the former captain, endeavored to persuade two players to join the esteemed club, only to face rejection through text messages.

Recent instances involving Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia highlighted this struggle, as both reportedly snubbed Anfield, opting instead for a move to Chelsea.

Gerrard, once an influential figure at Liverpool, shared insights in his autobiography, “My Story,” recounting his attempts to attract talent. He disclosed his approach of initiating contact via text messages, deeming it a more respectful method allowing players to respond at their convenience.

Recalling his pursuit of Brazilian midfielder Willian in 2013, Gerrard conveyed admiration for the player, emphasizing Liverpool’s interest through a polite text. Willian’s response, however, expressed doubts about Liverpool’s Champions League prospects, leading to a rejection.

Gerrard also made a bid for Toni Kroos, acknowledging both his and Brendan Rodgers’ admiration for the German midfielder. Aware of Real Madrid’s interest, Gerrard proceeded with apprehension, texting Kroos but facing another refusal. Kroos later solidified his place as a pivotal player for Real Madrid.
