Transfer Talks Intensify: Liverpool Open to Offers for High-Earning Duo at Anfield
As the transfer window prepares to swing open, Liverpool finds themselves contemplating the future of two key players at Anfield. Redmen TV presenter Paul Machin, in conversation with GIVEMESPORT, shared insights suggesting that the Reds might entertain offers for Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara in their quest to revitalize the squad following a disappointing season that saw them miss out on Champions League qualification, finishing fifth in the Premier League.
According to the Mirror, Fabinho, the defensive midfielder who joined Liverpool in a £43.7 million move from Monaco in 2018, is reportedly seeking a fresh challenge after a turbulent 2022/23 campaign. Speculation arises that his dip in form could potentially lead to a departure from Merseyside.
Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy has echoed these sentiments, suggesting that now may be the right time for Fabinho to seek a new venture.
Meanwhile, transfer insider Dean Jones recently conveyed to GIVEMESPORT that Thiago may face difficulties securing regular starts if Klopp manages to secure the signings of two midfielders ahead of the upcoming season. The 32-year-old Spaniard arrived at Liverpool from Bayern Munich almost three years ago in a £20 million move.
Paul Machin believes that as Klopp looks to reshape the squad following a lackluster campaign, Liverpool might consider offers for Fabinho and Thiago. The Redmen TV presenter contemplates the possibility of offloading the midfield duo to generate funds for a summer spending spree, although ideally, he advocates keeping valuable players within the squad but reducing their workload.
Machin explained, “I think Liverpool might consider offers for Fabinho and Thiago. If they were to get a good offer, this might be their last chance to move Fabinho on for decent money. But I think we’ve also seen in the last couple of weeks of the season that when he is only playing one game a week, he’s getting back to the level that he can play at. He’s played far too much football, so that’s the mission. Ideally, you keep good players around your squad, but you play them less. If not, and you need to generate the cash, then I think Thiago and Fabinho are two that I would look at cashing in on.”
Considering the combined £380,000-per-week wages of Fabinho and Thiago, trimming the wage bill could be an appealing prospect for the Reds. Fabinho, the Brazilian international, has made 219 appearances for Liverpool, contributing to 11 goals along the way. While his time at Anfield has been laden with trophies, it may be prudent for the club to consider a lucrative offer if one arises.
Thiago’s Liverpool career has been marred by injuries, causing him to miss 60 matches due to various setbacks, according to Transfermarkt data. Recent reports suggest that Liverpool is unlikely to offer the Spanish midfielder a new contract, especially considering his current deal is set to expire next summer. From a business standpoint, seeking a buyer for Thiago would appear to be a logical move.
As the summer unfolds, Liverpool’s decisions regarding Fabinho and Thiago will undoubtedly shape the direction and composition of the squad moving forward.
