Van Dijk’s Anfield Tunnel Remarks Target Onana Post Liverpool-Man Utd Draw
After the goalless draw between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield, tensions flared in the tunnel as Liverpool’s captain, Virgil van Dijk, expressed frustration towards United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Despite dominating the game, Liverpool couldn’t penetrate Erik ten Hag’s resilient side, missing opportunities to secure a win against a depleted United squad.
Diogo Dalot’s late dismissal didn’t hinder United from securing a crucial point. Van Dijk, disheartened by the outcome, asserted Liverpool’s superiority, emphasizing their relentless pursuit of victory.

“We controlled the game, created chances, and were the ones seeking the win,” Van Dijk stated to Sky Sports. “It’s disappointing when you want to win every match, especially against opponents like them.”
However, former United captain Roy Keane criticized Van Dijk’s remarks, labeling him “arrogant” and “disrespectful.”
Keane remarked, “He’s showing arrogance, dismissing Manchester United like that. He should remember his club has only won one title in decades. Both clubs have faced challenges.”
Journalist Alex Crook alleged that Van Dijk took a swipe at Onana after the match, claiming, “Van Dijk told Onana in the tunnel, ‘because of you, we only played a half-hour game.’ Onana responded with a smile.”
With this draw, United sits seventh in the Premier League, trailing six points behind the top four. Liverpool, now second, trails league leaders Arsenal by a single point, following Arsenal’s 2-0 victory against Brighton earlier in the day.
