Liverpool’s Ambitious Pursuit of Kylian Mbappe: Unveiling Their Unwavering Connection
Liverpool is firmly convinced that they are on the cusp of completing a remarkable deal to acquire Kylian Mbappe next summer, as per the latest reports.
Mbappe was embroiled in a protracted transfer saga during the summer, triggered by his rejection of a new contract offer from Paris Saint-Germain, amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.
In July, Al Hilal made an audacious world-record bid of £257 million for the French sensation, but Mbappe remained unmoved by the offer.
Following a public falling-out with the club’s hierarchy, he was temporarily exiled to PSG’s B-team. However, he has since made a triumphant return to the senior squad and is a consistent starter under the guidance of new manager Luis Enrique.
The question remains whether Mbappe would reconsider inking a new deal with the Ligue 1 side, who have maintained ‘peaceful relations’ with the player, and the possibility of an extension is ‘not being ruled out,’ according to L’Equipe.
Nonetheless, the report also reveals Liverpool’s belief that they can capitalize on Mbappe’s situation and secure his signature as a free agent in the summer. This is rooted in the fact that the Reds have reportedly ‘maintained continuous contact with the player’s inner circle’ since their failed attempt to sign him back in 2017.
Jurgen Klopp had expressed interest in the World Cup winner prior to his £200 million move to PSG while he was still with Monaco. Liverpool is said to have engaged in talks with the 24-year-old regarding a potential move to Anfield and has purportedly sustained this contact ever since.
The publication clarifies that although a transfer to Merseyside would be an unexpected development, Mbappe intends to ‘thoroughly explore all options’ before reaching a decision, with Real Madrid remaining the frontrunners to secure his services.
Notably, Mbappe himself has previously disclosed that he held discussions with Liverpool regarding a potential transfer.
In an interview with The Telegraph in 2022, he stated: “We had some discussions. I spoke with Liverpool because it’s my mom’s favorite club. My mom loves Liverpool. I don’t know why; you’d have to ask her! It’s a great club, and we met them five years ago when I was at Monaco. It’s a big club.”
Furthermore, Mbappe expressed admiration for Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp after their Premier League triumph in 2020, noting, “They’ve made winning look easy, but in reality, it’s never easy. The kind of performances they’ve consistently delivered doesn’t just happen. Being as ruthless as they’ve been is the result of extensive hard work in training and having an exceptional manager.”
