Liverpool’s Pursuit of Jamal Musiala Adds Twist to Bayern Munich’s Contract Negotiations
Liverpool has thrown its hat into the ring in the race to secure the services of Bayern Munich’s midfield sensation, Jamal Musiala, if reports emanating from Germany are to be believed.
The Merseyside club embarked on a significant midfield revamp during the summer, bidding farewell to stalwarts such as Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. In their stead, Jurgen Klopp brought in a new wave of talent, including the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch. Yet, Liverpool’s transfer ambitions seem far from exhausted, with Musiala now a primary target on their radar.
This development has been reported by the esteemed German outlet, BILD, which has suggested that Liverpool has been tracking the 20-year-old prodigy for an extended period. Notably, Real Madrid is rumored to be keeping a watchful eye on Musiala, too, having previously outmaneuvered Liverpool in their pursuit of talents like Aurélien Tchouaméni and Jude Bellingham.
Jamal Musiala remains bound by his contract with Bayern Munich, a commitment that extends through 2026. The Bavarian club has expressed a fervent interest in securing his services for the long term. However, the plot thickens as Musiala’s playing time is shared with the experienced Thomas Muller this season. The situation has reportedly snowballed into a “problem” of sorts, as Musiala was supposedly promised that he would be the “face of the club” in the future. This perceived discrepancy has opened the door for Liverpool and other potential suitors.
Furthermore, Liverpool’s transfer ambitions don’t end with Musiala. The Mirror has suggested that the club had an eye on Musiala’s teammate, Leroy Sane, with the winger earmarked as their “top target” should Mohamed Salah decide to seek pastures new in Saudi Arabia next year. Sane, 27, has made a significant impact for Thomas Tuchel’s side, netting seven goals in just 11 appearances this season. Liverpool’s reported willingness to break their club transfer record to secure his services underscores the seriousness of their pursuit.
Sane himself acknowledged previous contact with Jurgen Klopp, recalling conversations before his transfer to Manchester City: “Yes, I was also talking with them,” he revealed. “Jurgen was calling me too, talking to me. That was before I joined City. He did a good job at [Borussia] Dortmund – I met him when he was there. He’s a good guy, nice guy – honest. He [has] worked well with Liverpool.”
The race to secure the signatures of Musiala and Sane promises to be an intriguing subplot in the unfolding transfer saga, with Liverpool making bold moves in the quest for midfield and attacking reinforcements.
