Darwin Nunez’s face lit up with joy when he heard the Merseyside Reds fans chanting his name after his strike against Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp’s men arrived at St James’ Park on Saturday evening looking to build up extra momentum after their Merseyside derby win over Everton.

Newcastle meanwhile were hoping to keep themselves in the top four ahead of Carabao Cup final game against Man Utd.

Despite starting the game well, the Magpies were stunned in the 10th minute after a perfect assist from Trent Alexander Arnold to Nunez, who chested the ball down and smashed Nick Pope’s net.

After celebrating their side’s opening goal, the travelling Liverpool fans were heard chanting ‘Nunez! Nunez!’

As the chanting continued, Uruguay international forward was captured reacting with a huge smile across his face whilst he fist-pumped towards the away section. You can watch the wholesome moment below.

Cody Gakpo found back of the net for the Reds’ second before Magpies stopper Nick Pope was sent off for hand ball. the Merseyside Reds held on for a much-needed 2-0 victory.

After a tough start to life at Anfield, Darwin Nunez is now starting to fit into the way Jurgen Klopp likes to play whilst the Merseyside Reds are looking like they are starting to kick into gear.

However, one worrying issue ahead of a crucial week is that Darwin Nunez was forced off with what looked like a shoulder injury during the match against Newcastle United.

Klopp said: “The bad news is that Darwin has something on his shoulder so we’ll have to see.

“He had to go off with that issue and we need further assessment. I don’t know (the extent) in this moment. In this moment it is painful. Hopefully it is just painful and nothing more.”
