Jamie Carragher Settles the Lampard vs Gerrard vs Scholes Debate Once and for All

For years, football fans have debated who was the best out of Frank Lampard, Paul Scholes, and Steven Gerrard. However, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes he has settled the argument, even if he is a bit biased.

During an appearance on Peter Crouch’s podcast, Carragher discussed the Premier League debate with his former teammate. While different arguments get brought up in the Lampard, Scholes, and Gerrard debate depending on who you speak to, Carragher thinks he has a point that settles the debate.

Carragher believes that there is one thing that separates Gerrard from Lampard and Scholes. Crouch himself said that Gerrard was the best player he had lined up alongside, to which Carragher replied: “It’s not even close, is it?”

While Chelsea fans will argue that Lampard’s record is too unbelievable to overlook, with the midfielder still the club’s record goalscorer, United fans will rave about Scholes’ ability, and there’s undoubtedly a reference to a comment from Pep Guardiola or Xavi to back up their point. However, Carragher thinks that Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho’s attempts to sign Gerrard prove his point.

Chelsea and Mourinho tabled an offer in 2005 to try and bring Gerrard to Stamford Bridge, while Gerrard revealed that Sir Alex and United tried to sign him in 2002. It’s a fair point from Carragher, but it’s unlikely that Chelsea or United fans will accept it from him.

The boys got onto the topic after fellow presenter Statman Dave told Carragher that he and Gerrard had played together 383 times in the Premier League, a record between two players. After “settling” the debate over where he ranks compared to Lampard and Scholes, both Carragher and Crouch reminisced about the time they spent with the Liverpool skipper.

Crouch said that when he signed for Liverpool, he was more focused on impressing Carragher and Gerrard than Rafa Benitez. Carragher also said that he never had a go at Gerrard on the pitch, even though he lost his head with other things. He said that he would think, “it’s Stevie. What can you say? You’ve gotta let that one go, haven’t you? I’ll track your man, don’t worry.”
