Liverpool Starlet Harvey Elliott Reveals Near Miss with Real Madrid
Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott has recently disclosed that he was on the verge of signing with Real Madrid in 2019 before the Reds swooped in to offer him a deal. The midfielder had previously been with Fulham but was subject to interest from the Spanish giants before Liverpool made their move.
Elliott, a lifelong Liverpool fan, admits that once the club he supported made an offer, there was no chance he was going to choose anyone else. Speaking on the We Are Liverpool podcast, he said, “I was close to going to Madrid. I think Liverpool came in, and as soon as I heard they had come in, that was it. My heart was set on it, just because of being a Liverpool fan, all the family.”
The 20-year-old has been making a name for himself at Liverpool this season, appearing in 41 of the team’s 42 fixtures. His progress was unfortunately derailed by a gruesome ankle injury in August 2021, but he has since returned to form after a season-long loan at Blackburn.
Elliott’s rise at Liverpool has been impressive, and it’s clear that his passion for the club has played a significant role in his development. It’s safe to say that he made the right choice by following his heart and joining the team he’s supported since childhood.
