Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold Opens Up: His Stronger Dislike Between Man Utd and Everton

As Liverpool currently occupies the fourth spot in the Premier League standings, there’s a lot on the minds of both players and fans. Frustrations mounted after a controversial 2-1 defeat to Tottenham, which included an incorrectly ruled out goal by Luis Diaz for offside. The Reds also faced a 2-2 draw against Brighton, with Lewis Dunk’s late header being the sucker punch.

Now, Jurgen Klopp gears up for the upcoming Merseyside derby, set to take place after the international break on October 21. In anticipation of this iconic fixture, Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared his thoughts on the fierce rivalry between Everton and Manchester United.

During a conversation on Liverpool’s YouTube channel, the English international addressed the age-old question: who does he dislike more, the Premier League rivals Everton or Manchester United? His response offered a glimpse into the complexity of this sentiment.

Alexander-Arnold explained, “That’s a tough one. It’s difficult because when I was growing up watching the first team, it was always United dominated everything, so naturally as a Liverpool fan, I had that dislike towards them. They won everything; it was always them. But for me personally, I knew a lot more Evertonians, I was around them, it was a lot more intense with them.”

He further elaborated on the personal connections and interactions he had with Evertonians, especially during his school years. This close-knit relationship fueled the intensity of the rivalry from a young age. However, the defender also provided insight into the influence of Liverpool’s all-time great, Steven Gerrard, and his teammates on the perspective. “But I think if I was watching the first team and I was watching the likes of Stevie [Gerrard] and them boys, I always wanted them to beat United more than Everton. That’s the way I see it.”

Recent history might add more weight to Alexander-Arnold’s preference. Liverpool has enjoyed dominance over Manchester United in recent seasons, netting 21 goals in their last five competitive matches against their bitter rivals. In contrast, Manchester United has struggled to find the back of the net, managing only two goals in the same fixtures. This recent success could influence the feelings of the current Liverpool star.
