Mohamed Salah was devastated after 2-5 defeat against Real Madrid

Tuesday evening was certainly one to forget for the Merseyside Reds.

Liverpool went into their Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid in a good mood after beating Newcastle and Everton in the Premier League.

However, optimism quickly turned to pessimism at Anfield, the Reds going from 2-0 up to 5-2 down at Anfield.

It was a quite epic collapse from the Jurgen Klopp’s side, Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior both managed to score a brace.

For Mohamed Salah, the lost must’ve been particularly hard to take, as he was the main reason the team took a 2-0 lead.

The Egyptian delivered assists to Darwin Nunez’s magnificent opener, before capitalising on a rare mistake from Thibaut Courtois and scoring himself.

Unfortunately for Salah, he then had to watch on as his inconsistent midfield area and backline allowed defending UCL champions to effectively book their place in the quarter-finals.

And the Egypt international forward was not a happy to see the Los Blancos founding back of the net of five times.

Footage of Salah’s angry reactions to three of the opposition’s goals at Anfield have gone viral on social media.

However, while the vast majority of the Merseyside Reds fans are siding with Salah, Jose Enrique still chose to criticise him for his performance at Anfield.

The Spaniard, who used to play for the Reds, called out the trio of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Virgil van Dijk while a guest on talkSPORT.

“Salah, he looks off completely, [Virgil] van Dijk looks off completely, Trent [Alexander-Arnold] has been really bad this season as well,” Enrique said.

“I’m not just pointing out these players because it’s been the whole team, but the truth is there’s many world class players in this team that have been performing that actually, if he [Klopp] had options, he would bench them.

“Yesterday, Salah was really good, but I don’t know what’s been going on with him since he lost the final at the AFCON.

“He looks like another player completely, you just renewed his contract, you gave him one of the biggest salaries in the Premier League, and he’s another player.

“I actually believe that they should buy someone to actually really compete to take his place right now.”
